Jim Matthews Elder

I am a long-time resident of Colerain Township, only having moved about 1 mile from the house in which my mom and dad raised me and my sister. I attended Colerain Elementary, Colerain Junior High and Colerain High School. I was then a commuter to the University of Cincinnati for 7 years, completing a history degree (1982) and law degree (1985). My wife Lisa and I met in 1981. We married in 1984. We had 3 sons, all of whom live in the area. We also have 4 grandchildren.

We have been attending Whitewater Crossing for over a decade. On most Sundays, there are four generations of our extended family in attendance. I have had the pleasure of serving Whitewater Crossing as an advisor on legal matters, working with David Vaughan as Senior Minister, and serving on a board of advisors with Chris Boue during his time as Executive Minister. I also work in similar capacities with other westside churches when they have legal questions and issues. Lisa serves as a tutor in the Northwest School District through City Gospel Missions.

We spend most of our time outside work and church in activities with our children and their families. This includes youth sports, dance recitals, and school events for our grandchildren, and family group vacations. We also enjoy traveling with Lisa’s siblings, which, given the fact that there are 10 of them, we always seem to have our choice of group trips to join.
