Direct from David: How’s that praying thing going?

On Sunday, we talked about how important it is to Pray Like Jesus and are now on a renewed quest to pray more.

Leadership Author John Maxwell writes, Someone once asked Joan of Arc why God spoke only to her. She responded, “Sir, you are wrong. God speaks to everyone. I just listen.”

When God spoke to Samuel, it was as the boy lay down quietly in the middle of the night. Even then, Samuel did not at first recognize that the voice belonged to God. He needed the wisdom of his experienced mentor, Eli, to understand who was communicating with him. But based on how often Samuel heard God’s voice as an adult, it’s clear that he did learn to identify, listen to, and obey God’s voice.

Leaders are often very busy people. And they can easily get caught up in the activity of their obligations. If you’re a leader, that’s why it’s important to set aside times to quiet yourself and listen for God’s direction.

Received this email from a gal who attends here at Whitewater and is also listening to Him speak to her. She gave me permission to share. Powerful word picture to consider.

Hi David,
This morning as I was praying, God gave me a clear vision of His people. It was powerful and as I prayed to Him on behalf of His people I asked Him why? “Why did you show this to me?” Other people need to see it, people with more impact and reach. He told me to tell you. I don’t say “He told me” lightly as it is not often that He speaks to me so clearly. Yet, I knew that if I did not share what He showed me, I would be in disobedience. So as crazy as I feel, here goes.
Picture your family inside your home and all around it are warriors, armed for battle. They are armed with knives. They are there for your family. For your children. For your country. You have multiple machine guns, loaded and you know how to use them. And what are God’s people doing? They are sleeping! Walking through the battlefield in a state of slumber.

We are in a battle. A real and bloody, spiritual battle, and we are currently losing.God has given us two weapons. His word and prayer and yet we can’t even stay awake one hour with him to pray.

God says, “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray, and seek my face, then I will hear from heaven and heal their land.” The Lord of the universe is asking us to call to Him, and yet we slumber.Thank you for all you do to encourage and equip His saints.Blessings on your Day,

The very best prayer advice I could give you is to approach God as a child to the father. He loves you and wants to hear from you! A number of years ago, Billy Graham penned this “Prayer 101” which is worth a read.
The National Day of Prayer is coming up next week (May 3). Hope you will join Christians across the country in praying for unity in America. Remember, Jesus himself prayed that we would be one so the world could be won.

You can also lift up Whitewater members and guests in prayer. Visit our Prayer Wall.

Maybe you’re in need of prayer? We would love to pray for and with you.

P.S.: Thanks to prayer, the rain held off for Whitewater member Jim Benjamin to throw out the First Pitch at Monday’s Reds game. I was honored to be asked by Jim to be his catcher. (Jim is husband of staff member Teresa Benjamin.) As Jim has written in his mitt, “To God be the glory.” Well said, Jim.
